Two former members of the Kickapoo tribal council were formally removed from their positions during a hearing last week. Former council chairman Steve Cadue and former council chairwoman Thelma Simon had protested their removal and called for BIA intervention. But neither showed up at the hearing held in Horton, Kansas.

Nancy Bear, acting vice chairwoman, is eager to get the tribe's government back up and running.
