Interior bill funds Cahuilla settlement
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2001 Congress on Wednesday passed a $19.1 billion Department of Interior spending bill that makes a payment to the Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla for a land settlement. Congress passed a $14 million bill to authorize the tribe for land flooded by the Salton Sea. The appropriations bill funds a $6 million payment. The bill also authorizes the rural tribe to purchase land in a more lucrative area for economic development. Get the Story:
