Pow-wow bias lawsuit allowed
TUESDAY, MAY 7, 2002 A Minnesota school is claiming the future of its pow-wow is in doubt because of a lawsuit filed by a group of Native women. The University of St. Thomas tried to get the suit dismissed but a judge on Monday refused and allowed the women to continue gathering evidence. The women claim their drum group was kicked out of the pow-wow because of their gender. The Sweetgrass Road Drum Group, which is based on a Canadian reserve, is suing on the basis that the school is on public grounds. Get the Story:
