Indian Education at Risk
As President Clinton admitted problems in Indian Education during a speech to thousands of Navajo men, women, and children, Governor Mike Johanns of Nebraska defended a veto of a bill that would have aided schools in the Omaha Nation and Winnebago public school systems. Prompted by the loss of $1 million in state aid to their schools as well as inadequate facilities, the Winnebago school board passed a resolution seeking a lawsuit against the state. The Omaha school board is expected to do the same. Both school boards will make an announcement on Friday, detailing their plans.
