City weighs casino proposal

New London City Councilors are considering how best to move forward, or not, with a proposal by the Eastern Pequot Tribe to open a casino at a local pier.

The tribe presented its proposal to city residents and found some support. Voters want a referendum called, but councilors are wondering if they have the authority to do so.

The tribe is state recognized and is awaiting to hear a final determination on their federal status.
