Bush to cut tax cut

In an interview with the Associated Press, President Bush on Wednesday will scale back his proposed $1.6 trillion tax cut due to Democrat resistance.

Bush told the AP his tax cut will be less than $1.6 trillion but more than $1.2 trillion. The Senate earlier this month passed a resolution with the lower figure.

Democrats oppose the tax cut because it comes at a cost to federal spending. A number of agencies and programs Democrats, and some Republicans, say are necessary are seeing cuts.
