Flambeau casino not dead yet

An $80 million casino complex proposal by the Lac du Flambeau band of Lake Superior Chippewa has received a new life, thanks to residents of Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. Over 1,000 have signed a petition calling for a referendum on the proposal, which was earlier turned down by the village board before the project went before voters.

The tribe has proposed to split $92.5 million with the village and Brown County over 20 years.

The village board is not obligated to hold a referendum.
