Coeur d'Alene Tribe to collect gas tax
TUESDAY, JULY 24, 2001 In response to a recent court ruling in their favor, the Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Idaho plans to keep collecting a 25-cent fuel tax on sales of gasoline at two tribally-owned gas stations. But instead of remitting the tax to the state, the tribe will put the tax into a fund which could be used for road maintenance and other purposes. The Idaho Supreme Court on June 8 ruled that the state tax was an infringement of tribal sovereignty. The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes have created a similar fund as well. Get the Story:
