Cherokee Nation to vote on car tags

DECEMBER 22, 2000

Citizens of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma will vote next month whether or not to begin issuing its own car tags.

A dozen or so tribes in the state sell tags, which are typically cheaper than the state's. The Cherokee would be the largest to do so and say their tags would be $10 cheaper.

Some of the funds would be earmarked for public schools in the tribe's 14-county tribal area.
