Fishermen concerned about Mohegan project

APRIL 3, 2001

Mohegan Tribal Chairman Mark Brown on Monday said the tribe is willing to talk with any fisherman or others who have concerns about a shellfishing project they want to undertake.

The tribe has asked the Army Corps of Engineers for approval to install holding tanks, anchors, and other trapping equipment in various harbors and rivers the tribe is leasing. The effort is part of the tribe's expansion into the aquaculture and fisheries business.

Some lobster fishermen in the area told The New London Day they are concerned because the fishing devices could prohibit access to areas they have used.
