Ariz. tribes reach deal with state

Tribes in Arizona have agreed to new gaming compacts that would legalize new casinos, expand the size of casinos and require them to share about $83 million a year.

The 20-year agreement was reached after years of negotiation. Compacts that are set to expire in the coming years don't include revenue sharing provisions.

The new compact provides a progressive taxing scale to give the state 1 percent share of casino revenue up to $25 million and as much as an 8 percent revenues greater than $100 million. Also, rural tribes could exchange casino rights with more lucrative urban ones.
