Dispute arises over Navajo gaming

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2002

Two different governmental entities of the To'hajiilee chapter of the Navajo Nation are fighting over who gets to broker a development deal with a gaming company.

Gaming was approved for the To'hajiilee chapter, located west of Albuquerque, New Mexico. But the chapter government and a special gaming commission whose members were selected by tribal members each say they have the right to negotiate a casino deal.

Whatever the dispute, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held today.
