Cherokee's Swimmer faces competition
MARCH 29, 2001 Former Cherokee Nation Chief Ross Swimmer might be facing some competition from a fellow Republican considering a run for Oklahoma's 1st Congressional District. The seat is being vacated by Rep. Steve Largent (R-Okla.). Swimmer has formed an exploratory commmittee to test the waters for a run and is now joined by John Sullivan, a state legislator. If he chooses to run and is elected, Swimmer would be the second tribal member in the House of Representatives. Rep. Brad Carson (D-Okla.) was elected last fall. Get the Story:
