Democrats survive first day in power

JUNE 7, 2001

The Democrats had their first full day of power in the Senate on Wednesday and as usual, some very important and very exciting events occured.

Among them:

Majority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota promised to work across party lines. Fashion report not available at press time.
Jim Jeffords (I-Vt.) seemed lost when he went to find his desk but suddenly remember he's sitting with the Democrats now.
Robert Byrd, 83, of West Virginia was named President pro tempore, making him third in line of Presidential succession.
Some sort of vote or other was taken.
