Mont. governor breaks lobbying rules

The office of Montana Gov. Judy Martz (R) has admitted it did not follow lobbying rules when it hired a consulting firm with close ties to the embattled state leader.

A $15,000 contract was awarded to Denny Miller McBee Associates Inc. last August without seeking at least three bids. An attorney with the firm founded a GOP fundraising group which Martz chaired.

Martz last week left that position amid controversy over the role members of her office played with the group.
