Indian women protest 'squaw'
MARCH 12, 2001 A group of American Indian women in Idaho on Friday protested the state's continued use of the word "squaw" in public place names in light of a recent vote in the Legislature that killed a proposal to rename them. The women decried the use of "squaw" as sexist and offensive. They made the case at the state capitol and got a response out of Governor Dick Kempthorne and said its possible a future Legislature could consider the bill again. Get the Story:
