Lieberman addresses tribes

Vice-Presidential candidate Joe Lieberman addressed the Native American House caucus at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, saying a vote for Republicans is a step back for tribal sovereignty.

Both the Democrats and Republicans are actively courting the Native vote this year, due to the increased political prowess of tribes throughout Indian Country. Indian voters, however, typically vote Democratic.

Lieberman said he was proud of Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Chairman Kenneth Reels for making dreams come true. Reels said he supports the Gore-Lieberman ticket and will encourage everyone to vote for them.
