EDITORIAL: Tribe needs to open up

The New London Day in its editorial "What the towns are fighting," says the Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut should open up and be more clear on its plans if they intend to enter into a dialogue with three local towns.

The paper states that the towns didn't care about the tribe when they were conducting bake sales and holding car washes. They say that although the tribe has sought recognition since the 1970s, the towns didn't raise much objection until recently.

But the paper says the towns have a legitimate fear of casino development.

The tribe met with the paper on Monday and said they don't want to open a casino where it is not wanted.
