Racism investigation urged in Alaska

MARCH 23, 2001

The Alaska Legislature's House of Representatives on Thursday voted unanimously to support the Alaska Federation of Natives in seeking a racism investigation by the US Commission on Civil Rights.

The AFN is calling for the investigation into the paint-ball attacks on Alaska Natives in Anchorage. Two teenagers and one adult, all White, videotaped themselves shooting a paint-ball gun at Alaska Natives.

The adult, 20-year-old Charles D. Wisemanm, has been charged with seven counts of misdemeanor assault. The others' status is not known because they are juveniles.
