Editorial: Native voters need access
TUESDAY, APRIL 9, 2002 In an editorial today, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader raises doubts about a voting rights lawsuit filed on behalf of members of the Yankton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. The lawsuit claims the at-large voting system for the Wagner School District discriminates against Native voters. "We agree the Wagner School District would benefit from having Indian representation on the seven-person board," the paper writes. But the paper says the real problem may not need a federal judge's involvement and calls on more polling places on the reservation. Currently, only one site exists. Get the Story:
