NOVEMBER 27, 2000

Voters in Canada have their own election today, with the incumbent Liberal party leading in polls.

One Liberal candidate, Brian Tobin, is promising federal funds to build a treatment center in Labrador for Innu children addicted to gas. Children in one community have been removed from their homes in an attempt to treat them and more may be removed in another.

First Nations leaders have criticized the Canadian Alliance party for their stances on self-government, treaties, and fishing rights. Candidates in the party have been criticized for being racist.
