Robert W. Loescher on Monday ended a 23-year career and resigned as chief executive officer of Sealaska, an Alaska Native corporation based in Juneau.

Sealaska reported its first major losses in 17 years last month. But in a recent newsletter to shareholders, Loescher said the corporation's financial situation is strong.

Alaska Native Wireless -- a joint venture of Sealaksa, Arctic Slope Regional Corp., and Doyon Ltd., all Alaska Native Corporations -- and partner AT&T successfully bid $2.9 billion for licenses in 43 markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Denver and Portland, Oregon.
