Two judges for Chippewa Cree Tribe's court resign
Thursday, February 19, 2004

The chief judge and an associate judge of the Chippewa Cree Tribe's court have resigned.

Chief judge Gilbert Belgarde said he accepted a buyout offer from the tribal council. Associate judge Ken Gardipee also accepted the buyout, The Havre Daily News reported.

Belgarde opposed a recent tribal election in which a small group of voters approved changes to the constitution. One amendment allows the tribal council to appoint judges. Previously, the judges have been elected.
