S.D. center will facilitate disparity research
Friday, August 1, 2003

The Northern Plains Epidemiological Center opens in Rapid City, South Dakota, today, and tribal leaders hope it will help research disparities among American Indians in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa.

Indian communities in the Northern Plains suffer from disease, death and other problems at higher rates than other Native Americans. Researchers are trying to discover why.

The center is funded by a two-year $600,000 grant from Indian Health Service.
