Murkowski offers rival space in Senate office
Thursday, August 7, 2003

Former Alaska governor Tony Knowles has turned down an offer to work in the offices of political rival Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska).

Knowles, a Democrat, believes Murkowski was pulling a political stunt with the offer. Both support drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, but Knowles is trying to unseat Murkowski in the upcoming election.

"It is nice of you to invite me to move into your office but we hadn't planned on moving in until November 2004," Knowles said in a letter cited by The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
