Eastern Cherokee impeachment to begin next month
Tuesday, August 12, 2003

Impeachment proceedings for two top Eastern Cherokee officials won't begin for another month, The Asheville Citizen Times reports.

By that time, chairman Leon Jones, one of those being impeached, will be gone from office. He was ousted in a June primary election.

The other target is Bob Blankenship, who is running for-election as a member of the council. He formerly served as chairman.

Jones and Blankenship are accused of using a tribal membership list for political gain.
