Wednesday, August 13, 2003

The mayor of Denver apologized to the parents of an Indian baby who was taken by a social worker hours after her birth.

Sunshine was born August 1 to Victoria Goodluck and Phil Gates. Without explanation, the family says, she was taken away from her parents. She was returned three days later.

Mayor John Hickenlooper apologized for the treatment the family received but according to The Denver Post, didn't explain why the baby was taken. A private meeting has been scheduled tomorrow to discuss the matter.

Goodluck is Navajo and Gates is Lakota. They have five children.
