The Department of Defense has awarded $2.7 million in grants to tribal colleges to enhance programs in scientific disciplines critical to national security.

The grants range from $76,000 to $400,000. In South Dakota, Oglala Lakota College on the Pine Ridge Reservation and Si Tanka University, owned by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, are recipients.
