Janklow expects to be charged for fatal accident
Wednesday, August 20, 2003

Rep. Bill Janklow (R), former governor of South Dakota, expects to be charged for the car crash that killed another motorist, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports.

Janklow ran a stop sign before hitting and killing Randy E. Scott, 55, a county prosecutor said. Few other details have been released about Saturday's accident, including a death certificate and results of blood alcohol tests on Janklow and his passenger.

Once the police complete a report, it will be sent to the prosecutor, who will decide whether to file charges. But some residents feel he will not face the consequences, The Argus Leader reported.

Janklow escaped rape charges on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, where he used to work as a legal aid in the 1970s. Jancita Eagle Deer, his accuser, was killed in an accident after she came forward with the allegations.
