Man walking 1,700 miles to support language bill
Thursday, August 21, 2003

John LaFountaine is on a 1,700-mile walk to support a Native language bill in the Senate.

LaFountaine, who is Ojibwe, is walking from the Pine Ridge Reservation to Washington, D.C. He plans to arrive in the nation's capitol September 26 to lobby for S.575, a bill sponsored by Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) to bolster Native language education and preservation efforts.

LaFountaine is president of the Seven Fires Foundation. He says the bill will help the Lakota Project of South Dakota.
