Author of anti-Pequot book denies political run
Monday, August 25, 2003

Jeff Benedict, author of a controversial book that claimed the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation was not an Indian tribe, says he isn't planning on running for political office next yar.

But Benedict said he will eventually seek public office -- just not while he heads Connecticut Alliance Against Casino Expansion, a group opposed to the spread of Indian gaming.

In 2002, Benedict sought the Democratic nomination for Connecticut's 2nd district. He lost to another candidate, who ended up losing to Rep. Rob Simmons (R).
