Methamphetamine an epidemic in Indian Country
Monday, August 25, 2003

Methamphetamine has become an "epidemic" in Indian Country, a Department of Justice official said.

Jan Morley, an assistant U.S. attorney who grew up on the Turtle Mountain Ojibwe Reservation in North Dakota, said law enforcement in Indian Country is stretched thin. "We need to start pooling our state, federal and tribal resources," she said, the Associated Press reported. "We need to make (drugs) our war."

Morley made her comments at the annual Governors' Interstate Indian Council, held at the Leech Lake Ojibwe Reservation in Minnesota.
