Native bank finds serving Indian Country costly
Tuesday, August 26, 2003

The Native American Bank has spent more than a third of its capital in the past two years as it attempts to expand into Indian Country.

Based in Denver and with one operating branch on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana, the bank's spending has drawn the scrutiny of federal regulators. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is working with bank officials to address certain issues.

The bank is seeded by more than 20 tribes and Alaska Native corporations.
