Pueblo leader takes role in education seriously
Wednesday, August 27, 2003

Eugene Pino is the first American Indian to serve on the Pojoaque Valley Board of Education in more than 20 years, The Santa Fe New Mexican reports.

Pino, a former tribal councilor for San Ildefonso Pueblo, hopes to serve as a bridge between Indians and non-Indians. He wants tribes and the school system to be aware of each other's needs.

Pino also wants to get more Indian parents need to get involved in their children's education.
