Lawsuits fail to resolve control of popular fair
Wednesday, September 3, 2003

A Navajo Nation court has dismissed competing lawsuits over control of the popular Northern Navajo Nation Shiprock Fair.

The fair, in its 80th year, is set for October 2-5. Two different entities say they have authority to run the event.

The Shiprock Northern Navajo Fair Inc. is incorporated in the state of New Mexico. Its members say they can run the fair without the approval of the Shiprock chapter government.

The chapter has formed the Northern Navajo Nation Fair Board and is asserting jurisdiction.
