Okla. judge dismisses charges against Cherokee chief

A judge in Oklahoma has dismissed felony charges against Cherokee Nation principal chief Chad Smith.

Smith was charged with a riot and assaulting a police officer in connection with a melee at the Cherokee Nation courthouse in Tahlequah. The incident occurred in 1997, prior to Smith's election as chief in 1999.
