Navajo Nation to hold hearings on death penalty

A Navajo Nation council committee today will hold the first in a series of hearings on the death penalty.

The tribe has generally opposed capital punishment and has opted out of the death penalty for many cases. But recent violent crime warrants reconsideration by the Navajo people, president Joe Shirley Jr. has said.
