Poll: Should Mich. Indians be subject state law?
Friday, September 19, 2003

The state of Michigan is asking a federal judge to rule that Indian hunting rights have been terminated.

The state wants the declaration in order to force Indian hunters to abide by the same regulations at non-Indians. Attorney general Mike Cox said the move will prevent violence and confrontations.

An unscientific CNN accompanying an Associated Press story about the issue asks "Should these American Indians abide by the same hunting rules as other Michigan residents?" Votes are running about even as of early Friday morning.
