Tribes see positives and negatives in alcohol sales
Monday, September 22, 2003

Arizona tribes have taken a cautious approach to the sale of liquor on their reservations, balancing business needs with concerns about alcohol abuse.

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, the White Mountain Apache Tribe, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and the Gila River Indian Community offer alcohol but limit where it can be consumed. The tribes only allow sales at their casinos and do not offer "comp" liquor drinks like Las Vegas casinos do.

The Ak-Chin Indian Community sales alcohol and offers comps, but restricts comps to certain higher-level players.
