Cherokee official facing impeachment removed
Wednesday, September 24, 2003

An Eastern Cherokee tribal member facing impeachment proceedings has been removed from office, The Asheville Citizen Times reports.

Bob Blankenship was re-elected earlier this month but elections officials say he is unfit for office. He is accused of using a tribal membership list for political gain.

Former principal chief Leon Jones is also being impeached even though he was voted out of office.
