Spirit Walk for language preservation ends in D.C.

After 77 days and 1,700 miles, the Spirit Walk 2003 Race Against Time ended Thursday at the Washington Monument.

John LaFountain, Ojibwe, and 16 Lakotas made the journey to support Native language preservation efforts. They back a Senate bill to bolster education in Native languages.

The walk started on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
