N.M. school halts work due to discovery of remains
Friday, September 26, 2003

An expansion of the Chee Dodge Elementary School in New Mexico has been put on hold due to the discovery of Indian remains and artifacts.

School officials are waiting for a report from the Navajo Nation Preservation Department. They say changes to the $2.5 million project could raise costs.

Two Navajo families are pulling their children out of the school because of the discovery. Navajo medicine men have conducted ceremonies but some aren't assuaged.
