Editorial: Study confirms minority fears on police
Monday, September 29, 2003

A new study confirms that Minnesota has a racial profiling problem, The Minneapolis Star Tribune says in an editorial.

The study found that American Indians were more than 90 percent more likely than average to be pulled over by police than whites. But police found more contraband on whites than on Natives, the study said.

The paper notes that some state lawmakers denied there was a problem and didn't want to force police to collect data on race. The paper says lawmakers should require more studies on racial profiling.
