Native youth run to seek protection of sacred sites
Monday, September 29, 2003

About 50 youth from the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming ran more than 150 miles to raise awareness of sacred sites.

On Sunday, the Shoshone and Arapaho youth ran through a part of the Red Desert known as the Jack Morrow Hills where sacred sites are located. The Bureau of Land Management is considering allowing drilling there.

Plains tribes are opposing the project. More than 60,000 public comments have been received, the most the BLM has received for a a draft environmental impact statement.
