Merry Ketterling, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, spoke about efforts to eliminate the "Fighting Sioux" nickname of the University of North Dakota.

Ketterling, who is a student and employee at UND, said people were let down when the state Board of Regents prevented the school president from considering a change to the name. "Everybody was crying. It was so devastating because this was the end of the end. What can we do now?" she was quoted as saying at a conference.

Despite the prominence of the nickname and logo, Ketterling said she still hopes that the symbols will be removed someday.
