Pataki discussing land and casinos with Wis. tribes
Thursday, October 9, 2003

Staff for New York Gov. George Pataki (R) has met with two Wisconsin tribes to discuss settling land claims and a possible casino in the Catskills.

Sources said staff met with the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians and the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin. Both have ancestral ties to New York and have standing land claims.

The Stockbridge-Munsee Band wants to open one of three casinos in the Catskills. Sources said Pataki's staff has suggested the two tribes partner to develop one casino.
