Divisions likely to delay resolution of energy bill

The energy policy bill might not be resolved until next year due to lack of agreement among members of Congress, a Senate aide said.

Republican leaders had hoped to have a final package early this fall. President Bush yesterday said he wants to sign a bill by Christmas.

The latest version includes changes to the Indian title. Provisions that waive the Department of Interior's liability for energy projects on Indian land are included by their impact is limited.
