BIA employee swamped with many FOIA requests
Friday, October 10, 2003

The Eastern region of the Bureau of Indian Affairs only has one employee to deal with Freedom of Information Act requests, The New London Day reports.

Timothy E. Gowdy is a full-time management analyst for the BIA's office in Nashville. He has a a doctoral degree in business administration and 34 FOIA requests that he's working on.

Three towns in Connecticut have made it 35. Worried about the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, the towns have asked for all telephone log entries, notations of conversations, meeting notes, letters, memoranda, e-mail messages, fax cover sheets, transmitted documents and calendar entries along with notes from BIA staff reflecting meetings, telephone conversations or other contacts with tribal representatives.
