Study says Pueblo ancestors carried corn 50 miles
Tuesday, October 14, 2003

Research published this week in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences says Pueblo ancestors who lived at Chaco Canyon in New Mexico depended on corn from sites up to 50 miles away.

Researchers compared corn cobs found at Chaco Canyon with the soil in fields elsewhere and found that their chemical composition matched. They conclude that heavy bundles of corn were carried from these locations to feed the inhabitants of Chaco.
