Okla. tribes plan state's first tribal college
Friday, October 17, 2003

The Five Civilized Nations and Oklahoma State University are working together to establish the state's first tribal college.

The Creek Nation is leading the effort. "As we continue to build tribal service capabilities, we need a more sophisticated and educated workforce," Chief Perry Beaver told The Native American Times. "It's our desire that our people fill these positions, and a Native American college would help make that happen."

The Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Seminole tribes are also involved in the planning.
